Lutfiyah Nanhuck (born 1995, Rose-Hill, Mauritius) is a contemporary painter currently based in Beau-Bassin, Mauritius. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas, Nanhuck has garnered recognition for her captivating abstract works. These vibrant paintings feature a captivating interplay between contrasting colors and brushstrokes. Nanhuck's technique masterfully blends soft, ethereal washes with sharp, gestural strokes, evocative of landscapes or seascapes.
Nanhuck's artistic exploration delves into the complexities of the human psyche. Through her vibrant abstractions, she investigates the cognitive processes of perception and the way we experience the world, questioning and digging into what human existence entails. Each artwork is a compelling journey, designed to elicit strong emotions and moods in the viewer. This focus on perception is evident in the contrasting elements within her work, where both the softness and the dynamism contribute to a multi-layered interpretation of the human experience.
Lutfiyah Nanhuck chose not to pursue a formal education in art and graduated from the University of Mauritius in 2018 with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB). Nanhuck’s work has been exhibited at notable venues such as the Shay Hewett Gallery in Grand Baie, Mauritius, the Caudan Arts Centre in Port Louis, Mauritius, and more recently at the ZeeArts Gallery in Dubai. Her paintings have also found homes in various private collections, both nationally and internationally.
